Slider image size is 658×300.
Any image smaller than 658px width and 300px height won’t be able to generate slider images thus the extra space.
To have even size slider images simply use all featured images above 658×300 resolution and then run thumbnail generator once.

Go to Appearance -> Customizer -> Footer text to place your html code in left or right side of footer. You don’t need any plugin for this. Footer locations support basic html already.
