or you can also verify using this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-publisher/
I have done the above, absence was verified, but when I put the ad sense in there the ads are not showing up on my site.

New ads takes a while to get activated. If problem persists, send your ad code to [email protected] and we will check.
