How can I get sidebar widgets to show up on my front page? It doesn’t seem to be working for me so far.

You just have to drag the widgets. Go to Appearance -> Widgets
If it is some other problem, first check if WP widget functionality is working by switching to default twenty thirteen theme and using widgets.

I have dragged widgets to the sidebar but they don’t show up on the front page. They will show up on the subsequent pages but not the front page.

So the newly dragged widgets are there in the sidebar? but are not showing up on the frontend?
Try this to troubleshoot:
1) Disable third party plugins and check.
2) Switch to default twenty thirteen theme and check if you are able to use widgets and let me know.
