I’d like to know if I can get this set up as a static site only wit no blog features, for some sites I will build? For those sites I will only use WordPress for the plugin use value.
You can create a page using the full width template and assign it as your front page by going to Settings -> Reading. Make use of footer widgets too, activate them from control panel.
If you want to permanently remove comments refer:
